Clute, Texas

Where Science, History, and Fun Come Together

Clute residents know the value of quiet living near the largest city in Texas.  Less than an hour south of Houston and even closer to Galveston, this community offers a lot of small-town safety and geographical convenience.

Clute is home to The Great Texas Mosquito Festival, the annual celebration has gained national recognition and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the country. Half-seriously referred to as "The Texas State Bird", the Mosquito is an excuse for residents to join in on three days of fun and games. For more information on The Great Texas Mosquito Festival please go to www.mosquitofestival.com.

In 2003, the remains of two mammoths were discovered in Clute.  This was the first major find of its kind in the Texas Gulf Coast region and has put Clute on the archaeological map.  "Joe Mammoth" and "Asiel", as the mammoths have been named, join "Willie Manchew", as the mascot of the city's ambassadors. The actual remains found are housed in Asiel’s (a restaurant located next to the Mammoth Lake Dive Park).

Clute is also home to the Center for the Arts & Sciences.  The Museum of Natural Sciece housed in The Center was voted one of Frommer’s Top Ten Museums in Texas.  Port Freeport and the 21 miles of  beaches that line the Gulf of Mexico are within five minutes of Clute.  One of the beaches, Surfside was just recognized by Gulfscapes magazine as the top beach destination on the Gulf Coast.
